FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Newton County Expands Broadband Initiative with Smarter Newton County Project Newton County, MO – October 22, 2024 – The Newton County Commissioners would like to remind County residents and business owners that the "Smarter Newton County Roadmap Initiative" online survey, allowing those interested in optimizing the benefits from improved Internet connectivity in the County, is still available to access to provide input of advancing digital skills and tools. The Roadmap planning goal is to maximize the deployment of high-speed internet infrastructure throughout Newton County to advance economic and community development, as well as improve public safety. The online survey is available at the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/hjVV4cHdmN As the federal government is finalizing eligible locations for the Congressionally-authorized Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program funding, Newton County is planning to secure Internet connectivity for unserved locations in the County. Building upon the success of the initial Newton County Broadband Project work which began in 2023, the Smarter Newton County Roadmap will leverage previously-approved federal funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARPA) to facilitate these planning efforts. These federal grant funds will support the expansion of broadband services to help ensure that all residents and businesses have access to the digital tools they need to access an increasingly online environment. The primary goal of the Roadmap Initiative is to develop a strategic plan that maximizes the benefits of enhanced connectivity for Newton County. This plan will focus on identifying and prioritizing key projects that improve connectivity adoption and utilization efficiency, thereby enhancing the quality of life for county residents and businesses. To gather public input, Newton County is encouraging residents to complete the Roadmap’s online survey by the October 31st deadline. Everyone's suggestions are welcome as the Newton County Commissioners work to develop a comprehensive plan to address the County's broadband needs. Newton County remains committed to developing a more connected, sustainable, and equitable community. The Smarter Newton County Roadmap Initiative, funded by federal grant support, underscores this commitment to the County’s residents and businesses. By prioritizing digital infrastructure, investing in strategic plans, and involving the public, Newton County is building a stronger and smarter future for all.
